Mutual Recognition Policies for Other Professional Designations
Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA)

CMA Canada and The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) have established a Mutual
Recognition Policy on the basis that they share common and strong interests in the advancement of the
profession of management accountancy, especially in relation to the maintenance and strengthening of
professional, educational and ethical standards. The policy establishes the arrangements whereby qualified
members of CIMA will be recognized as members of CMA Canada, and qualified members of CMA Canada will be
recognized as members of CIMA.
To be eligible for admission as a Certified member of CMA, applicants must:
• be a certified member in good standing of CIMA
• have qualified as a professional accountant by completing the entire program of CIMA
• have completed a Canadian university degree or equivalent
• be a Canadian citizen or legally entitled to work in Canada
• have permanently relocated to the province in which they apply
• have no outstanding disciplinary charges or complaints that are in the course of investigation by
CIMA
• declare any criminal offenses and any resulting disciplinary action,
• have not previously attempted and failed a CMA Canada qualifying examination
• be employed in a qualifying position in Canada with a minimum of two years Canadian managerial
experience
• have completed, prior to admission and while a permanent resident or citizen of Canada, a university level
course in Canadian Taxation and Canadian Law. Courses must be deemed equivalent to CMA Entrance Examination
Syllabus in order to be approved.

Advanced Standing Policies for Other Professional Designations
The Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Pakistan (ICMAP)
Eligible members of the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Pakistan (ICMAP) may be granted
special advanced standing in all CMA Prerequisite Studies topics and the CMA Entrance Examination.
To be eligible for special advanced standing, applicants must:
• be a certified member in good standing of ICMAP
• have qualified as a professional accountant by completing the entire program of ICMAP
• have completed a Canadian university degree or equivalent
• be a Canadian citizen or legally entitled to work in Canada
• have permanently relocated to the province in which they apply
• have no outstanding disciplinary charges
• have not previously attempted and failed a CMA Canada qualifying examination
• be employed in a qualifying position in Canada.
