CMA Canada’saccreditation process has been designed to recognize those universities that achieve high standards of instruction in management accounting.  Graduates of accredited programs are granted an exemption of the CMA Entrance Examination provided they meet the criteria set out in the policy.

The CMA Stream at Mount Allison University

The CMA Stream at Mount Allison University is the list of courses that, taken together, cover the entire CMA Competency Map Entrance Requirements for students to be eligible to write the Entrance Exam.   After being subject to a rigorous review, the CMA Stream was accredited by CMA Canada in May, 2008, the first to be accredited in New Brunswick.

The list of courses in the CMA Stream can be found in our Prerequisite List.  Further information on how the CMA Stream meets the Bachelor of Commerce degree requirements at Mount Allison is available from Mount Allison University's Academic Calendar, and its CMA Stream webpage.

Students graduating in 2008 or later from Mount Allison University’s CMA Stream with an overall average of 75% or higher, are eligible to apply for the waiver within three years of completing their degree.  As this is a nationally accredited program, this eligibility would be recognized across Canada by all provincial CMA affiliates, if a student were to move to another province after graduation.  Those who are granted the waiver may proceed immediately to the CMA Strategic Leadership Program, which begins in November.

Those who complete the CMA Stream but do not achieve an average of 75% are still eligible to write the CMA Entrance Exam immediately upon completion of the commerce degree without any further study.

Thinking about pursuing the CMA Designation?

Students following the CMA Stream are encouraged to contact CMA New Brunswick with any questions or concerns they may have about successfully completing the CMA Stream to ensure they are eligible for a waiver of the CMA Entrance Exam upon graduation.  A “Mid-Stream” transcript evaluation conducted by CMA New Brunswick staff is encouraged after completion of the student’s third academic year to ensure the student is on track.  On-campus guidance regarding the CMA Stream is available from Professor Bill Waterman, CMA.

How to apply

Applications for a waiver of the CMA National Entrance Exam based on completion of the CMA Stream at Mount Allison University must be received by CMA New Brunswick each year by the Entrance Exam application deadline immediately preceding entry to the Strategic Leadership Program, usually in late April.  An official transcript received directly from the registrar indicating the degree has been conferred must be received before the waiver can be confirmed.
